• Note From Mary Ellen

It's time to return to the classroom and exchange those flip flops and shorts for your teaching duds. I hope your summer was filled with relaxing recreation and happy times. My summer was marked by a special event that honored one of my textbooks.

Excellence and Longevity Award for BC:PP!

Business CommunicationsThe Text and Academic Authors Association awarded the seventh edition of Business Comunication: Process and Product its 2013 Longevity Award. This award honors textbooks and learning materials whose excellence has been demonstrated over time. The award is especially meaningful because the TAA judges are all published textbook authors. My coauthor Dr. Dana Loewy and I were thrilled to receive such an honor.

Longevity in textbooks can be achieved in only one way. Instructors and students must continue to benefit from and value the books. I have an entire bookshelf filled with business communication textbooks that have come and gone over the years. The staying power of a book depends totally on its acceptance by the market, and I want to thank all of you instructors who have year after year voted for my books with your adoptions and approval.

The first edition of Business Communciation: Process and Product came out in 1994. I remember that I hated the cover, a clownish graphical design with way too many colors. However, instructors and students, ignoring its cover, liked its signature three-level writing process along with its comprehensive coverage of mainstream business communication topics. Amazingly, this first edition quickly captured the market lead and remained there through seven editions.

With my excellent coauthor, Dr. Dana Loewy, we will strive to maintain our leadership in providing exceptional business communication teaching/learning materials.

To be one of the first to receive a review copy, ask your Cengage sales rep to put your name on the waiting list for early delivery. I think you and your students are going to love our new PowerPoint slides with appealing graphics, colors, animation, and narration.
