State Papers Online: 18th Century, 1714-1782 Part II: State Papers Foreign: Low Countries and Germany
expands on the domestic papers found in Part I: State Papers: Domestic and Privy Council. The archive features many of the foreign papers drafted during the reigns of George I to George III. Part II documents the relationship of the Hanoverian reign with Flanders, Holland and Germany, with particular focus on European powers including the Holy Roman Empire, German States and German
Towns. Also included in Part II are the Military Expedition series and the Archives of British Legations.
This installment contains correspondence with English and foreign diplomats, original draft treaties, letters between heads of state, working papers of the secretaries, intercepted dispatches and other intelligence documents, as well as material relating to military, naval and colonial policy.
Scholars can browse and search manuscript material from over 1000 volumes (approx. 300,000 folios) written or received from the British secretaries of state. Built on the same platform as the original State Papers Online series, this collection is cross-searchable, offering 18th-century scholars many options for locating and viewing manuscripts as well as time-saving search limiters.
